When it comes to these game characters, there is no middle ground.
There are now thousands of video games, and each one has characters with different histories and personalities. No matter if they are the main character or a supporting character, they were all made for a reason in their games. With so many different characters, there are bound to be at least a few that players either love or hate.
Everyone has their own favorite game characters and ideas about them, which often leads to heated arguments about who is right. What do you suppose? Do you think the love or hate these game characters get is fair?
Magikarp (Pokemon Series)
Magikarp is known to be one of the weakest and least useful Pokemon. It looks like a boring, flabby fish. With Magikarp’s terrible moves, it’s definitely hard to get him to a higher level. But some players love the fact that Magikarp is so bad and doesn’t do anything.
People say that we all started out weak and sad like Magikarp, but that if you wait long enough, good things will happen, like becoming a strong Gyarados. Do you think it’s worth it to deal with Magikarp or not?
Frank Tenpenny (Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas)
Frank Tenpenny is a corrupt, cruel, and manipulative police officer who uses his power to help himself. He has all the qualities of a perfect villain. Players end up hating Frank because they have to watch him make fun of, humiliate, and control CJ. It’s not hard to see why they would hate Frank so much.
Frank’s humor, on the other hand, makes other people like him. Even though he talks a lot of trash, he knows how to say his snarky things in a funny way that makes people laugh, even though they are getting trashed. We all love a funny guy at the end of the day.
Princess Peach (Super Mario Series)
Princess Peach, the well-known damsel in distress, has been taken away over and over again for decades. Even though Mario is always willing to save the love of his life, not all players feel the same way. She always gets caught. How does she do it? Why can’t Princess Peach just fight back like she does in all the other Mario games? Players are getting tired of having to save her.
But even though saving Princess Peach is a never-ending quest, we wouldn’t have one of the best games ever without her. Over the years that people have been playing Super Mario, they have grown to love the idea of saving Princess Peach, who has become one of the most popular game characters because of this. Some people might find it annoying, but others think it adds to Princess Peach’s appeal.
Eddy Gordo (Tekken)
In the early days of Tekken, Eddy was the character that everyone used. His fighting style, Capoeira, which is a mix of Brazilian martial arts, dance kicks, chops, and music, has made it easy for new players to easily crush their opponents by smashing on random buttons or using the famous X and O technique. What would be different if players knew a lot about Eddy? Because of his movesets, Eddy is a real pain to play against. He is that person we told our friends not to use.
But Eddy’s annoying tricks were also what made him a favorite among many players. In the end, he really is a fun character to play as. Especially when you win a perfect round by breaking dance-like Eddy maneuvers and making your opponents angry. Eddy will always be our favorite, even though new Tekken characters have moves like Eddy’s.
Nero (Devil May Cry)
Devil May Cry was mostly about the legendary devil hunter Dante for a long time. But in Devil May Cry 4, players were given the chance to play as a new character named Nero. Not everyone liked this idea. Some people would say that Nero is just a whiny kid who stole Dante’s ideas. No one can replace the real Dante for them.
On the other hand, some players were happy that Devil May Cry got a new feature. In Devil May Cry 4 and 5, we learn more about Nero and start to really like him. Nero has shown many times that he is a great addition, especially when he used his devil trigger form and showed everyone how crazy he is. Do you think Nero should get as much attention as Dante?
Grim Reaper (The Sims)
The Sims is a life simulation game where players make virtual people and run their everyday lives. But, just like in real life, Death is something that the Sims will have to face. Sims die in different ways, sometimes unexpectedly. It’s unsettling to witness the Grim Reaper appear, chant, and kill your Sims. You can try to beg the Grim Reaper not to kill a Sim, but this doesn’t always work.
But the Grim Reaper isn’t always scary and annoying. Just like we can have fun with other Sims, we can also have fun with the Grim Reaper. We can make fun of each other, tell crazy stories, or even try to get the Grim Reaper to like us. What makes it more exciting is that he is a Grim Reaper. Some players will even kill their Sims so that the Grim Reaper will come. In The Sims, things really do get out of hand.
Triss (The Witcher)
There is a huge shipping war because Triss, Geralt, and Yennefer are all in love with each other. Triss was Geralt’s love interest in the first two games of The Witcher. Even though we all knew that Geralt was in love with Yennefer, the sorceress. But since he had lost his memory and Yennefer was nowhere to be found, Triss filled that void.
Fans were more upset about the situation because Yennefer and Triss were friends. Triss was criticized for betraying Yennefer, while some thought she was the best friend since she knew how to respect Geralt. How do you feel? Should Geralt start over with Triss? Or is it better for Geralt to stay with his old love, Yennefer?
Abby (The Last Of Us Part Two)
Abby has become one of the characters who has caused the most trouble. She couldn’t not be, could she? She was jailed after killing Joel, one of the most popular video game characters, by repeatedly hitting him in the head with a golf club. How could they do this to our good friend Joel? Abby was doomed to be hated from the beginning.
Later in the game, we play as Abby to learn more about her and find out the truth about why she did what she did. Back in Slope Game part one, the doctor Joel killed to keep Ellie from being used as a sacrifice to make a vaccine turned out to be Jerry, Abby’s father. Abby did what she did to get back at her dad, just like Ellie wants to get back at Joel. Abby’s actions make logical, but we didn’t know or care for her father like we do about Joel, thus we don’t comprehend her.
