How to remove stickers on the fruit

How to remove stickers on fruit? Stickers on fruit, especially apples and pears, are a major annoyance. You don’t want to eat the sticker, and you certainly don’t want the sticker to stick to your fruit. Apple stickers are a particularly common problem during autumn. You can remove stickers on fruit with a little know-how and patience.

 ## Clean the surface first 

Did you know that you should clean the surface of your fruit before you remove the stickers? The surface of your fruit is where the stickers will stick to, so it’s important to get rid of any leftover bits of sugar that could be attracting the stickers. A simple dusting with a dry pastry brush will help clear away any dust particles that could be causing the stickers to stick.

 ## Peel stickers gently off 

Peeling stickers off your fruit is a lot easier than you may think. Start by peeling off just one corner of the sticker at a time. Don’t try to peel them off all at once as this can damage the fruit. Peel off the sticker gently, taking care not to bruise the fruit underneath. You can use a spoon to scrape off the sticker if it’s stuck to the surface. You can also soak your fruit in a bowl of water for a few minutes before you start removing the stickers. This helps loosen the sticker so you can remove it more easily.

You can try baking them in the oven to get rid of the stickers – this is a particularly good idea if your applesauce has a lot of stickers on it. Put the applesauce in a bowl and cover it with a damp cloth. Leave it in a warm place for a few hours so that the stickers soften and become easier to remove.  Stickers on pears and other soft fruits should be soaked in water before removing them. Soft fruits, such as pears and strawberries, should be soaked in a bowl of water for a few minutes before removing the stickers. It’s important to remove the stickers from soft fruits before they dry out, as they will be much harder to remove once they’ve dried out. 

When you don’t want to peel stickers, leave them on the fruit. They dry up with time and become easier to remove. It may be tempting to try and remove all your stickers in one go. We recommend against doing this, as it can damage your fruit.
